I was thinking of a few scents and wondering if you have ever made them, Lavendar/Rose, Rosemary/Vanilla, Green Tea…?

We haven’t made a lavender Rose just a Lavender and Geranium which turns out to be a rose and geranium smelling soap (very good for the skin). Lavender and Rose would turn out nice just be careful because you are mixing a synthetic oil with an essential oil. Rosemary Vanilla is interesting….. Maybe worth a try. I think a Vanill and Clove would be better. Both are strong fragrances. Green Tea is something we had looked into but haven’t made… Very popular right now. Whatever you decide to do let us know. I can’t wait to hear how they turned out.

Hi: My son and I took the soap class and enjoyed it very much, and I also bought the kit. I was wondering if there is a way to just make a few bars at a time? This way you can experiment (I’m the adventurous type!) without having to waste an ENTIRE batcn on something that doesn’t turn out…????

Thank you so much for just being you!

    A novice soap maker….. Kay

It’s hard to do that because you really don’t want to break up the batch. It needs to cool down as slow as possible and by breaking up the batch you risk your batch. Good luck and I am glad you’re having fun!

I have been exploring the wonders of soap making and I have some questions. Do large bricks of glycerin work well in soap instead of entirely homemade soaps? I also have some ideas… honey almond oatmeal soap, and peaches and cream soap instead of strawberries and cream.

You don’t want to mix glycerin with vegetable based homemade soaps. One or the other. When you are making veg. based herbal soap it is the chemical reaction called saponification that makes the soap and by adding glycerin it will ruin your batch. Also Honey Almond Oatmeal Soap and Peaches and Cream sound wonderful. Have fun!

Mixing Glycerin with veg soaps is a great thing.. Alot of soap works are doing it now. Mix half and half and it turns out great. we love them.. save scraps of your store bought soaps add some glycerin to it and make hippy soaps…It also gives a pearl effect.. I just published a 2 page article in a magazine on using both bases.. Its a hit.. Don’t let anyone tell you , you cant mix it it together..

I grew up in Lakeside but transplanted to Memphis several years ago. My sister in Law Mary James turned me onto you guys and I was hoping someone could help me.I am wanting to make or purchase a soap that smells just of roses.Nothing added to it. Just the pure smell of Rose and it seems everywhere I look it’s not available unless it has another scent added to it. Any Ideas?

I found a vegetable based glycerin just last week. I haven’t tried it yet. Has anyone else used a vegetable glycerin?
